I have been living in Hamburg for almost 3 years now and I notice every single time how diverse this city is and how much there is to discover. The proximity to the water, the greenery or the great architecture are just some of the reasons why I love it so much in the "Pearl of the North". To make your visit to the most beautiful city in Germany even tastier, I put together my favorite tips for "a perfect summer day in Hamburg".
1. Extensive breakfast in the "Nord Coast Coffee Roastery" (https://www.nordcoast-coffee.de)
The Nord Coast Coffee Roastery located in the old historic Deichstraße offers freshly roasted coffee as well as an incredibly tasty breakfast menu. In addition to the famous "avocado bread", there are also granola, pancakes or fresh bowls on the menue.
2. Walk through the Speicherstadt and Hafencity
From the North Coast Café you can perfectly explore the Speicherstadt and Hafencity. Walk through the Speicherstadt to the Hafencity and end your tour at the Elbphilharmonie. Here you can take the "longest escalator in Western Europe" to the viewing platform. From here you have a great view over Hamburg and the harbor.
3. Neuer Wall, Jungfernstieg & Rathausmarkt
Explore downtown Hamburg by walking along the street "Neuer Wall", strolling through chic boutiques and then stopping at the famous Jungfernstieg. There you will also find Hamburg's oldest and most famous department store - the "Alsterhaus". Tip: Delicious coffee is available on the ground floor of the Alsterhaus at "Elbgold". Get a coffee to go and walk across the Alsterarkaden to the Rathausmarkt.
4. Steak Tatar and French flair in Café de Paris (https://www.cafeparis.net/)
In a side street of the Rathausmarkt you will find the French bistro "Café de Paris". For me, this is the best "steak-fritez" in Hamburg, which you can enjoy in a very authentic French atmosphere. The restaurant is already impressive to look at as the high hall, built in 1882, is a former butchery and a tiled Art Nouveau dream with ornaments in the vaulted ceiling, which praise Hamburg's trade.
5. Alster boat trip In the afternoon, you should enjoy the Alster.
Rent a boat at the Supper Club (https://supperclub.de/) and explore the Alster canals. Besides stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, canoes and pedal boats, there is a very cool and laid-back atmosphere at the Supper Club. After spending enough time on the water, you can end the day with a drink and dinner here.
